Making It - Now that Obama has triumphed, entrepreneur hopes pigs will fly for her, too

Barack Obama says that only in this country would his improbable rise to the presidency be possible. Brigitte Le feels the same way about her own journey as a Vietnamese-immigrant-turned-IBM-employee-turned-entrepreneur. To celebrate such unlikely stories and help give hers a happy ending, she is selling a rather unusual inaugural memento: a flying-pig statue.

Brigitte and her family fled Vietnam just days before the fall of Saigon in 1975. Her father, a government official, had managed to sell their house, and they left with just the clothes on their backs and the gold from the home sale sewn into pouches around their waists -- "We were so heavy!" she says. The family was sponsored by a Northern Virginia church, and Brigitte started school in Herndon knowing only Vietnamese and, luckily, French. The French teacher took her under her wing and taught her English.

    Clearly, the memorabilia marketers have gone to hog heaven for President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration.

    Okay. I can accept the mugs, t-shirts, key chains, posters, and pins celebrating the new president, but a golden flying pig? I mean, even if you are the most dedicated of Democrats, where would you put this golden flying pig?

  5. I was born in the year of the pig and I purchased one for myself - I will buying one for all of my friends whom were born in the year of the pig...and guess what 2019 will be the pig year again! I love it!

  6. The Flying Pig made a fitting present for any graduating student. My niece absolutely loved it since she had never thought she would endure four years of college let alone achieve an invaluable degree in the end.

  7. What a great gift - I purchased a LARGE GOLD FLYING PIG for a friend's new store opening and it was a HIT at the party...the pig represents LUCK and PROSPERITY in addition to the flying factor - When Pigs Fly, the owner will retire. Amen!

  8. My daughter is 10 years old and she loves to play soccer - for this christmas, Santa gave her a flying pig to remind her to live her dreams ...the flying pig was customized with her name and a soccer ball attach to it. The flying pig is now her new pet. Thank you for the positive message.

  9. After many years of dating, I gave one to my niece when she married a really good guy. We were concerned. She loves it and it reminds her of her efforts in that regard and then finding happiness.

I received this charming gift from a friend - I met this man 15 years ago and finally in 2007, he asked to marry me...When Pigs Fly I got married and my friend sent me this charming flying pig with a personalized blink blink 2007 on the butt. I used it as my center piece and it gives me a smile every time My husband and I looked at it.
